Creating Water
By Matrixfan  Last changed Sep 09, 2006

This tutorial is designed to teach you how to add water to your map. Don't worry, no chemistry is involved.

The completed map can be downloaded from here.

Brushwork

Create a brush that will serve as the water, apply the "toolsnodraw" texture to all sides. It is important to note that the water will only show on the top plane, if you can see the nodraw texture it will look poorly in game.

Using the Texture Application tool, select only the top face of the brush, open the texture browser and search for "water", select the one that you want; I chose "water_canals03". Apply the texture and the brushwork is done.

Entity

The last step for creating water involves adding only one entity. Apply a "water_lod_control" point entity to the map, leaving the default values is fine.
